Golf Day  July 7th 2011

We held our Annual Golf Day at Chislehurst Golf Club on the 7th July. Eleven teams played the first nine holes in pouring rain but luckily the sun then shone, the players dried out and everyone enjoyed the rest of the days’ golf followed by a convivial dinner. This year's event raised funds for three local charities, Bexley Moorings Project, the Jimmy Mizen Foundation and Bromley Carers. Bromley Carers was the chosen charity of the current captain of the golf club.

Bexley Moorings Project supports young people between 8 and 17 who are often vulnerable, disadvantaged, difficult to engage or isolated. They could be young carers, have a disability, substance dependence, mental health or behaviour issues, low self-esteem or family dysfunction.

The Jimmy Mizen Foundation was set up as a positive way of remembering the life of Jimmy, who was tragically murdered in May 2008. Their principal aim is to help young people, up to the age of 24, play a positive role within their communities as independent and responsible individuals. The family has a shoe repair business in Sidcup and is well known in the area. Jimmy's mother and father work tirelessly for their Awareness Project addressing audiences of young people, parents and teachers in schools, prisons and youth clubs to promote anger management, stress awareness and the consequences of violent crime. The Foundation has already made significant progress in raising finance to support local scouting organisations and arranging apprenticeship placements.

Fittingly the winners of the Golf Day were the "Four Amigos". Their captain, Nick Roddis explained that his team had taken part because they had all played rugby at Sidcup Sports Club where Jimmy and his brothers were also members.
